Backyard Brains, a neuroscience research and education company located in Ann Arbor, MI, is looking for a Research Scientist for its office in Ann Arbor, MI.
Duties: Lead research and development of Backyard Brains Neurorobot kits for high school neuroscience education. Work on the development of simulated brains, robot hardware and high-school neuroscience curriculum based around neurorobots. Supervise a computer software engineer (The Engineer will support existing Matlab-based neurorobot software and develop new IOS-based neurorobot software for high schools). Use the neurorobots and associated curriculum to teach high school courses in neuroscience online (robots are sent to students via their schools) and develop guidelines for new instructors. Work with education researchers from Purdue University to evaluate the neuroscience curriculum (using surveys), specifically students' master of fundamental neuroscience concepts, computational thinking skills and self-efficacy in neuroscience.
Requirements: Must have a Phd in Neuroscience or related field and 3 years experience in the field of Neuroscience or related field. Must have familiarity with neural circuits research and modeling; ability to construct and program simple robotic devices; ability to effectively communicate neuroscience.
